Results are coming in from this morning’s Way Too Cool 50K and La Sportiva Mountain Running Team runners Leor Pantilat (San Carlos, CA) and Caitlin Smith (Oakland, CA) are at the top of the Mens and Womens standings. Wow! This is a great showing for the La Sportiva running team as well as for the trail and ultra running community of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Pantilat finished a full three minutes ahead of Dan Olmstead (2nd overall) while Caitlin Smith (24th overall) ran nearly 5 minutes ahead of Beverley Anderson-Abbs (31st overall). It looks like a lot of the reader predictions over on KarlMeltzer.com are spot-on in regards to Pantilat and Smith. As having personally finished well behind Pantilat in a couple SF Bay Area trail races I can attest, the guy is wicked fast. Smith’s finish is huge as her first ultra-distance race was PCTR’s Sequoia 50K just 2 weeks ago (February 28, 2009). Smith was the first place female at Sequoia and took 2nd overall. She now has 2 ultra-distance races under her belt and 2 wins, nice start! It looks like she will be racing the 20K distance out at PCTR Pirates Cove next weekend, I’ll have to say congrats.
